THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Whitworth AMDS

Producers: Mary Kershaw and Anne Kerry
M.D.: - Andy Kelly
Stage Director: Graham Kershaw

No one intending to dine after a show should see Little Shop of Horrors beforehand because the humans do not eat the greens but vice versa!

With some reasonable tunes and a light-hearted approach, this can be, and indeed was, a very enjoyable show but, beware - the star is something of a prima donna (perhaps the wrong sex!) and must be worked on and encouraged (pardon me - it) will grown in stature as the show progresses. You will also need a liberal quantity of flesh and gore.

The multi-talented and enthusiastic Andy Kelly was also multi-stretched in his various roles in the show and it was no wonder he felt ill and run down! Whether he is responsible for the band or performing on stage, you cannot fail to notice him even when he is not in sight. Perhaps his diet during the week of the show did not quite suit him.

Spencer Kerry is a promising young talent who is quite experienced for one so young. He gained the sympathy of the audience for his wimpish part which was well played. Susan Walker must take care that she does not become typecast in the less virtuous but loveable parts - the trouble is she plays them too well. David Park was in his element and clearly enjoyed himself, as did the audience, when he met his fitting end. As one person said, "It should have happened years ago!" No doubt Whitworth's next production will see his resurrection.

When Graham Kershaw, the stage director, has a challenge, he meets it head on and successfully. When he showed me the plant manipulation mechanism, I felt Barry Walker and Guy Lewis deserved a special mention.

The young band was just right and gave wonderful support. The production was another excellent example of the work of two very capable and strong minded ladies.
